This weekend is for people who want to get really involved in the daily smallholding tasks on the farm. You may be contemplating having a smallholding of your own or simply fancy a couple of days working with livestock, fruit, veg and more and learning a bit more about them.
This practical and fun smallholding weekend is built around a mix of activities that need doing on the farm during your time with us and includes tasks that we think you will particularly enjoy.
You will experience a selection of the following seasonal activities:
- checking all the livestock
- feeding the pigs
- feeding and watering the poultry and waterfowl
- collecting the eggs
- feeding and caring for chicks, goslings and ducklings
- mucking out and bedding up animals large and small
- herding sheep
- weighing and checking lambs
- moving cattle
- moving pigs
- making bread
- harvesting veg and fruit
- cob oven cooking - there will be pizza
- making blackberry vinegar or jam
- building a poultry hut/run
- mending a livestock fence
- tractor and machinery demonstration
- farm walk
This is a jam-packed but informal couple of days so if you're after a more thorough grounding in smallholding, our carefully structured and ever popular Introduction to Smallholding course would be more appropriate.
Do bring: outdoor clothes, clean wellies, waterproofs and probably a change of clothes if it looks like rain.
per person for the weekend, including homemade lunch, Devon cream tea and refreshments on both days. There is a
10% plus discount for multiple bookings for the same course date (e.g. £350
